SUBJECT: SPROCKET & CHAIN TYPE COUPLING
We have recently changed the coupling utilized on the G3 CBW motor to gear box. The original coupling has 2 metal halves and a urethane "spider" part between them. The metal parts couple to the shaft with a straight bore fit.
We have found that this straight bore coupling may slip and cause failure of the urethane spider as the two coupling halves become separated.
We have changed the coupling to a "double row chain" type and have utilized a taper lock bushing on the motor side. This guarantees there will be no slipping of the bushing on the motor shaft and also couples the gear box sprocket to prevent slipping.
The first thing you should do is to check the couplings on your machine. Tighten these as necessary to prevent slipping of the coupling. You can continue to use the original coupling and guarantee proper operation by drilling a detent in the shaft of the motor and reducer to retain the set screw on the coupling. Use Loctite on the set screw also. If you wish, you can order the kits that are necessary to replace these urethane couplings with the sprocket and chain type.
If desired, please order the following kits as necessary to change couplings on your machine. Part no. KTG3MCR001 is the kit number for the 10 horsepower motors and part no. KTG3MCR002 is the kit for the 5 horsepower motors. Check your motors to see which kits are needed.
Please fill-in the attached request form, along with your name, so we know how to forward these parts to your attention. You may fax these to 504-469-9777. The order will be processed by our Parts Department and expedited to your attention.
Best regards,
