SUBJECT: HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT - FLAT WASHERS

Gentlemen,

We have found some defective flat washers with hydrogen embrittlement. This embrittlement can allow cracking of the washers and with the vibration of the machine, the cracked washers can fall out. When this happens, the rear housing retaining cover will be loose and the bearing will fail. It is very important these washers are replaced as soon as possible. These washers were used on the bearing assemblies for the machines built between date codes 94131 and 94202 listed below.

Please see the attached printout showing the machines affected in your territory.

This is a very simple matter of just loosening one bolt at a time and replacing the washer until you have all four done. This can be done by the customer in about fine minutes. See the attached drawing to identify the correct washer.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
