USED IN MACHINES: 36021 BWE, BWP, RWE, RWP, NSE, NSP, CME, SPE, M7G, 36026 QWE, QWP, RWE, RWP M7G, 42026 RWE, RWP, QWE, QWP, QTG, QTH, QTL, QHP, QHE, M6G

Dear MILNOR Dealer:

Beginning in May 1989 we received complaints about the 24S125 water seals with "finger springs" leaking by. Garlock inspected the seals which had failed in our machines in the field and discovered the ID of the seal slightly larger than the OD of the seal sleeve. This of course causes a path for water to leak by the seals. As soon as we found out, we immediately stopped production on all machines using these seals and halted all parts shipments of these "finger spring" seals until "garter spring" seals were received.

All machines and housings manufactured after 6/12/89 utilized the "garter spring" seal design. We are confident that these seals are manufactured properly and will serve us well.

We suspect a very small percentage of the Garlock "finger spring" seals to be manufactured incorrectly, but need your help to accomplish the following:

1. Return your stock of 24S125 and 24S117 Garlock seals to us immediately. We will ship new seals to you; probably manufactured by Johns-Manville. (By the way the new seals [p/n 24S125 and 24S117] may be identical due to their "all rubber" construction.) We will ship seals only under part #24S125.

2. Contact any customer with a bearing housing installed in the last 12 months in any of the above mentioned machines. Ask your customer to check for water dripping from the bearing leak-off cavity or any sign of bearing noise.

3. If a housing is found to be leaking, we would like you to schedule a "seal replacement service call" as soon as possible. MILNOR will supply a service labor payment of $140.00 (4 hrs @ $35.00) to perform this repair. We will also provide any replacement parts necessary under our standard warranty policy. You must submit a copy of your completed work order to receive the credit.

4. If evidence of bearing failure exists, necessitating a change of the housing, and Garlock "finger spring" seals were found to have been the cause of the failure, the bearing housing must be changed. The replacement housing will be handled by our standard bearing housing warranty and a service labor payment of $350.00 (10 hrs @ $35.00) will be made by MILNOR to perform this repair. You must submit a copy of your completed work order to receive the credit.

5. MILNOR will provide a service labor payment of $17.50 (1/2 hr @ $35.00) for change out of seals in a bearing housing in your stock. We expect these seals to be returned, at which time we will issue credit for both the seals and the labor.

6. MILNOR will provide a service labor payment of $105.00 (3 hrs @ $25.00) for seal change outs in bearing housings installed in machinery in your stock.

Requests for service labor payments should be submitted to MILNOR's Warranty Administrator accompanied by a labor receipt describing the service performed. Request without labor descriptions will be denied. The machine serial number must be included with this description.

Included with this bulletin is a description of the proper installation procedure for the water and grease seal. Please share this information with all appropriate personnel. The seal installation tool (shown in the installation procedure) will be shipped to all dealerships coded to sell and service the machines requiring seal replacement. This tool will guarantee proper seal positioning and ensure seal integrity.

As always, we appreciate your cooperation and support.
