Daisy Chain
How Do I Eliminate the Daisy Chain for Power and Serial Link.
Board failures and other problems often can be traced to loose connections in the old style orange plugs. The orange plugs were used for power and serial link connections on boards. They had a single wiper that could lose its connection easily. These plugs were designed for use with round pins. We now use square pins and black plugs designed for use with square pins. The black plugs will also work with the round pins.
The method of connecting boards to the power and serial link was through a daisy chain. The daisy chain started at one board and went through each board terminating on the last board. This presented the possibility of three loose connections on each wire on each plug of the daisy chain.
Eliminate the daisy chain and change the plugs on the power and serial connections on ALL boards. The following is an explanation of how.
1. Locate a position where a terminal strip with 6 terminals can be mounted.
2. Mount the terminal strip.
3. Bring wires for the DC ground, +5vdc, +12vdc and -12vdc to 4 of the terminals on the strip.
4. Replace the orange plugs for power with 10YMTA10CB.
5. Run wires from each of the terminals to each board individually for those voltages.
6. Make the same changes to the serial link using the other 2 terminals on the strip and using 10YMTA06CB.
